ENPS Board Update

Mar 14, 2025

ENPS added new board members at the February Annual General Meeting

The annual general meeting of the society on February 20th drew considerable interest, with 31 people attending, either in person or by Zoom.

President Kate presented the annual report and highlighted the events and accomplishments since October, 2023.  All indications are that the society is thriving, with increased membership, new volunteers and a sound financial footing.

 Highlights included:

  • Continuing growth in membership numbers (now 221, an increase of 58)

  • 1,827 subscribers for Wildflower News newsletter

  • Participation in a total of 13 events, including seed planting workshops, seed and garden shows, and events at the Muttart Conservatory, Valley Zoo and the Royal Alberta Museum

  • Promotion of native plants, through seed collecting, preparation and distribution, plant growing, and sales of seeds and plants

  • Garden and natural area upkeep (at nine sites)

  • Completion of a Member & Volunteer Survey

  • Board-planning workshop

  • Advocacy and consulting liaison with the City of Edmonton, regarding the EPCOR Vegetation Management Plan, and Gibbons Badlands Prairie.

Treasurer Patrick Kyle presented an audited financial statement for the year which showed that the Society is in good shape financially.

New members were elected to the board at the AGM as directors. This was followed by a presentation by Aaron Vansevenandt, on what we learned through the Member and Volunteer Survey (see the separate article on the ENPS website: https://www.enps.ca/news-1/2024-member-survey-summary).

Elections held at the next regular board meeting, on March 6, saw changes to the board executive. Kathleen Mpulubusi becomes president, replacing Kate, and Aaron Vansevenandt assumes the vice-presidency. Patrick Kyle remains as treasurer, but Kristina Haagsma takes over as secretary (Natasha having had to resign from the board temporarily, owing to a family situation). Directors are: Patsy Cotterill, Liz Deleeuw, Mary-Jo Gurba-Flanagan, Daniella Liknes, Manna Parseyan and Kate Spencer. (Cherry Dodd has resigned from the board but will be continuing to fulfill her existing responsibilities for the society.)

A big thank-you goes to Kate for her over four years of service to the society as president. She will continue to assume many responsibilities as a member of various committees.
